Another Battle (10 points)

We mentioned LGBT+ characters, characters of color and with a disability in the lesson. Is there another marginalized group or area you feel comics could do a better job of representing? Research this matter further in 100 words or more. Please cite any sources that you use.

On the Run (10 points)

You are a mutant hiding from the government that wants to register you. Solve the skyscraper puzzle below to stay hidden.

skyscraper puzzle
skyscraper puzzle

A Skyscraper puzzle consists of a square grid with some exterior 'skyscraper' clues. Every square in the grid must be filled with a digit from 1 to 5 so that every row and column contains one of each digits, as in Sudoku.

Each digit placed in the grid can be visualised as a building of that many storeys. A '5' is a 5 story building and so on. Each number outside the grid reveals the number of 'buildings' that can be seen from that point, looking along the adjacent row or column. Every building blocks all buildings of a lower height from view, while taller buildings are still visible beyond it.

Just another Superhero (10-30 points)

We listed a handful of minority superheroes in the lesson. Your job is to find one that we have not mentioned, name them, and explain why they are considered a minority character. Your superhero can be from any form of media (movie, TV show, book, comic, video game, etc.), as long as they are clearly defined as a superhero. You have to write 100 words or more on one superhero to get full 10 points and you can do this three times for 30 points.

Who Is It? (15 points)

One of the superhero teams is under attack! Put the pieces together to reveal which one it is to warn them in time. Send me a screenshot of the solution and your time. The person who gets the best time will win 250 beans at the end of the term.

The Industry Discriminates (10 points)

In the movie Deadpool 2 (2018), Russell aka Firefist says that there are no overweight superheroes and that "the industry discriminates". Do you think that is true? Why, why not? Write 100 words or more and cite any sources that you use.

One to Five Stars (15 points)

Pick a movie (mentioned in the lesson or not) that features in-world discrimination against superheroes or features a minority superhero and write a review in 150 words or more. Include a short synopsis of the movie, how in-world discrimination or representation was shown in the piece and whether you think the filmmakers did this justice. Please take note that you must choose a movie that is HOL, or at least teen, appropriate. If you did this option in previous assignments, you are not allowed to pick the movies you have already chosen.

Protest! (10 points)

Write about a way you would campaign against the Mutant Registration Act. You can do this in the form of a story, a letter, a poem, a speech, a diary entry, or whatever you desire. Do so in 100 words or more. In the case of a poem, the writing must be 15 lines or longer.

Art (15 points)

Through the use of any medium, illustrate something that was mentioned in the lesson. It does not have to be particularly good (I know I am not a very talented artist), but you need to put an effort into your submission.
